We now know that Nightwish had already been planning to replace Anette with Floor starting in November; Floor mentioned this in a radio interview. The Denver show drama just accelerated the timetable of that replacement; Floor got a text asking “How soon can you get to the USA?” and was in Seattle with the band in about sixteen hours. So there were “issues” beforehand. Troy has even mentioned the atmosphere of the tour with Anette (“The joy of this adventure was being wrecked and everyone was feeling very insecure”) and after her replacement (“We are all feeling a squillion times better”).

Possible scenario: Anette already wanted out, and Tuomas knew it. So he talked to Floor so she could start prepping to take over. (They knew each other from way back; After Forever did shows opening for Nightwish some years ago.) Then Denver happened, including Anette’s very public blog tantrum afterward, and Tuomas decided he couldn’t wait any longer.

Again. by swbuehler https://stevenwb.com/?p=30#comment-48 Tue, 02 Oct 2012 21:54:00 +0000 https://stevenwb.com/2012/10/01/nightwish-looking-for-a-lead-singer-again/#comment-48 That would be my guess too… Two things come to mind: (1) Tuomas could’ve seen another “Tarja” moment coming and wanted to avoid another public humiliation à la the public open letter they used last time; (2) As much as they try to not make it about the money, they did acknowledge the business side of things and when they’re not performing because someone is ill for an extended period, they’re not getting paid (album sales alone do not pay the bills for most artists anymore since iTunes and the 99-cent track; concerts and merchandise sales do).

Tuomas: “What’s with that stuff you posted on your blog, Nettie? You’re starting to sound like Tarja there…”

Anette: “I’m sorry, Tuomas, I was just upset. To have that happen on top of me being sick, I feel so helpless…I guess I’m just scared, is all.”

T: “Scared? Why?”

A: “You heard what the doctors said? They found a cyst on my liver, and said I needed to get it looked at right away. And I’m just getting so sick here, and I’m *scared*, Tuomas. I can’t do this anymore. I want to live to see my kids grow up. I’ve got to stop this and go home and take care of myself. I know how important this is to you and to everyone, but…I just can’t do it anymore, is all.”

T: “I understand, and I think the others will too. Your health is always the highest priority. If that’s really what you want, we’ll let you go. Don’t worry about us; we’ve been through this before, as I’m sure you remember (grin), we can find someone else. I know somebody that might be able to step in for you for the rest of the tour, even. I’m sorry you have to go, but I hope you have a long, happy life.”

This would have taken place not long after Denver, and it took a bit of time to make the arrangements for Floor to come in, so Anette did one more show in SLC before they made the public announcement.

No doubt the truth lies somewhere in between, though.
